13 LIVING THE NATURE IN THE MARCHES
In a land where environmental awareness has always been a way of life, you can find some special attractions to improve your own
relationship with the nature.
PARC O REGIONALE GOLA DELLA ROSSA E DI FRASASSI
The Natural Regional Park of Gola della Rossa and Frasassi is about 10.000 hectares wide, with some charming views that offer quiet spots. Some
crystal-clear water flows from sulphuric springs and naturalists really enjoy some points in the park. The Valle Scappuccia, the Lago di Fossi and
the Grotte di Frasassi are the most important ones. The caves represent an underground kingdom of rooms, passages and canyons of stalactites
and stalagmites.
PARC O SASSO SIMONE E SIMONCELLO
The Park is the heart of the Montefeltro area. This is the synthesis of this territory; a mix between steep limestone relieves and gentle hills. Flora
is multicoloured and variegated, from grey of the stones, to red-green of the nuts trees and maples. The educational value of this area is really
important. You can make trekking, mountain bike and orienteering activities or visit the Calculation Museum in Pennabilli, the Historical Mine
Museum in Novafeltria and the Fortess Museum in San Leo.
RISERVA NATURALE ABBADIA DI FIASTRA
The Abbadia di Fiastra Natural Reserve combines moments of pure nature immersion with human history contemplation. In this lands many
people have left their signs and the ruins are still visible: the Romans, the medieval land lords, the Monks and later the modern peasants who
reduced the width of the forest that still maintains its charm and beauty.
EDUCA TIONAL FARM
Educational Farm’s aim is making children involved in the farm atmosphere, to discover the countryside, where most of what they eat and drink
comes from. Children and adults understand what happens in the farm and around it, during the different seasons.
PARC O ZOO FALC ONARA
Falconara Zoo was first opened as a private institution in 1968, on a wonderful hill in Falconara Marittima. Born as a park for entertaining
children, nowadays covers 60.000 sqm and its aims are environmental education and animal conservation. Through some interesting activities,
adults and children are involved in educational treks to understand why is the conservation of our biological heritage so important. A clear
poster designing , some laboratories for students and some guided tours are well organised.
AC QUAR IO DI CA TTOLICA
This is the most important Aquarium in the Adriatic coast. It shows thrilling underwater journeys about the sea and its particular relationship
with human beings. Its over 3,000 inhabitants belong to 400 different species from all over the world. Sharks, the most dangerous sea predators,
are the main characters of the aquarium . Here you find some 3-metre-long sharks, some sharks from the Mediterranean and the Coral Reef, and
some hammerhead sharks.
